MORRISONS TO USE WINE SCREW TOP THAT USES LESS ALUMINIUM AND IS EASIER TO RECYCLE

A new environmentally wine screw cap that is easier to recycle is being rolled out by supermarket Morrisons.

It is trialling the Green Leaf screw cap which is manufactured by Italian company Enoplastic on its own brand Soave.

The new seal uses the same technology and materials as a standard screw cap, but contains 64 per cent less aluminium. It can also be completely removed making it easier to recycle.

As less material is required, Morrisons expects that the amount of cap shipments to the bottling plant will be reduced by 60 per cent, which will also save on CO2 emissions.

Morrisons beer wine and spirits (BWS) category director Steve Mosey said: “This new launch is proof of our ambition to drive hard innovation in the category which our BWS team has worked hard to keep fresh and relevant to our customers. We are proud to take responsibility for our own carbon reduction while keeping prices low.”
