Professor David Bellamy and Warren Edmondson of Nettoyer present the Green Champion Award to representatives of Bluewater Shopping Centre
The first Green Apple Awards for Retail and Wholesale took place on board the Royal Yacht Britannia on Friday, 13th February.
The event was attended by 150 guests, and included the presentation of plaques to the Green Heroes during a champagne reception.
BLUEWATER, based in Kent, have been presented the highest Green Apple Retail Award, Green Champion, in recognition of their environmental project – DEVELOPING A SUSTAINABLE SHOPPING SOLUTION. Their success wins them a holiday for two to Aquacity, Poprad, Slovakia.
The trophy was presented by top botanist and TV personality Professor David Bellamy OBE and Warren Edmondson of Nettoyer Media, who sponsored the glittering and memorable event.
The judges commented: “Built in 1999, The Bluewater buildings are highly efficient modern structures, so the ability of the mangement to continue to introduce efficiency and sustainability improvements is highly impressive. Investment and enthusiasm are used in equal measures to keep this facility at the leading edge of sustainable shopping, and each update creates an opportunity for the community to benefit by reuse and local sourcing.”
The event also saw the first presentations of the Green Pioneer Awards. These are engraved plaques presented to individuals for outstanding environmental effort, and were presented to David Shaw of White and Wild Milk for Scotland, and Tim Hooton of Holiday Inn for England.
